We said...
"Do something for the BFBS Big Salute!"
But what Mark McKenzie, of BFBS Scotland fame, heard was...
"Do Summits for the BFBS Big Salute!"
Mark was committed to this idea, thought about it over a long-weekend and came up with 'The Edinburgh 7' - the city is built on 7 hills after all!
So on the 2nd of October, the plan is roughly:
10:30 - Leaving Edinburgh Castle
11:30 - Arrive Corstorphine Hill (depart 11:45)
13:00 - Craiglockhart
13:30 - Braids
14:15 - Blackford
15:15 - Arrive Holyrood park for Arthur Seat - taking the route directly in front of Holyrood Palace
16:20 - Depart Arthur Seat
16:30 - Calton Hill
16:50 - Edinburgh Castle

Meet the team
Mark McKenzie
The brains behind the idea which should worry everyone. Mark has been with BFBS since 2013 and a broadcaster in the Edinburgh area for longer than anyone can remember. He's visited many of the charities who benefit from the Big Salute and seen first hand the difference grants make.
Sgt Sharon Black
Currently serving in the recruiting team with 215 ( Scottish) MMR and a volunteer with FAB Camp charity, which has been supported by the Big Salute
Joining the team to highlight the vital work of the BFBS Big Salute as every penny raised goes directly to small UK charities supporting active service members, veterans, and military families
Lt Commander Jim Gallagher
Joined the Royal Navy in 2013 as a Writer. Now the Logistics Officer of HMS GLASGOW in build in Glasgow. Jim has taken on running challenges for charity before but has promised to walk this one.
Fiona Forrest-Anderson
A former Regular and Reserve Officer, Fiona served in Scotland as the ROSO and Unit Welfare Officer for 154 (Scottish) Regiment RLC. Still closely connected to the Armed Forces Community as a member of The Centre for Military Research Education and Public Engagement at Edinburgh Napier University and of works with several smaller military charities in Scotland including Big Salute beneficiary Bravehound which is why she's joining the team.
Gordon Michie
RAF veteran Gordon served from 1988 to 1995 including RAF Wyton, HQ RAF Germany at Rheindahlen and RAF Leuchars.
Gordon is a huge supporter of military and veterans' charities and is currently the Director North for the RNRMC.
He is joining the team because he heard Mark was the brains behind the idea and realised additional help was required.
What is the Big Salute?
The BFBS Big Salute is our annual campaign that raises vital funds for armed forces charities and is separate to grants awarded under the BFBS Welfare Fund scheme.
