All you need to know

The Paralympic Games happen every four years for athletes with disabilities from around the world who compete against each other in a variety of sports - culminating in the awarding of gold, silver and bronze medals in each sport discipline.

The history of the Paralympics is believed to originate back to 1948 with the first Stoke Mandeville Games which was set up for World War II veterans with spinal cord-related injuries.

The games, this year, take place in Japan's capital Tokyo from Wednesday the 25th of August til Sunday the 5th of September with all the coverage available on Channel 4 and BFBS Sport!
