DDS Savings Amid Cost of Living Crisis

The Defence Discount Service has partnered with big name brands to offer the UK’s armed forces, defence community, veterans and spouses some much needed savings on household and utility purchases.

They’ve teamed up with the likes of BT, Boxt, O2 and Sky to provide exclusive offers from boilers and MOTs to home insurance and phone contracts. This is to thank the defence community for their continued dedication and to help with the current economic situation.

Wraparound childcare funding

The WAC scheme will help eligible service families with children aged 4 to 11 years old to claim up to 20 hours per week of funding for each child attending before and after school care during term time.

To benefit from the WAC scheme, personnel must complete five steps. For more info go to Discover My Benefits webpage, the Defence Childcare Portal on defnet, or Defence Connect. Personnel and service families can also attend upcoming virtual Microsoft Teams sessions.

Headspace licences for serving personnel

Headspace is a personal guide, with hundreds of meditations and exercises for sleep, focus, and movement. Due to existing partnerships, you could get a FREE licence, usually £49.99/ year.

Join Team UK at Invictus Games

Following the success of the Celebrating Forces Families Awards earlier this year, we are going again in London on Friday the 28th of April 2023 and are now looking for sponsors.

Improving the financial stability of military families

The Army Families Federation would like to hear the views of current and ex-Service personnel and their spouses and partners on whether military life affects their ability to easily bounce back from any financial set-backs.

The survey closes on 31st of October 2022 and it won't take long to complete plus it will help inform the MOD on what further support is needed.

Universal Credit claims (living overseas update)

For anyone currently or due to be stationed outside the UK who may be eligible to claim Universal Credit, there is now additional guidance available to make the process of selecting an address clearer.

The MOD has worked to improve support, including allocating one DWP team to manage all overseas armed forces claims. To get help, or support, then email using the link below!

The Virtual Careers Expo 2022

The Chamber Military Network has launched a Virtual Careers Expo to connect those from the armed forces community with employers who have vacancies across the UK.

There’s also info about support and training, as well as two live dates featuring guest speakers giving you the opportunity to talk directly with employers.

The 2023 Education Support Fund

The bidding round has opened for the 2023 MOD Education Support Fund. Applicants can be accepted from state schools, free schools and academies in the UK who have pupils from service families.

Bidding is open until Friday 30th September. Service parents should share details of the ESF with their child’s school.

New Motor Finance Protocol

A new policy, introduced on the 1st of June, by the Finance & Leasing Association (FLA) should remove any disadvantages faced by serving personnel who have a motor finance policy for a vehicle in the UK but are required to deploy overseas.

This is only for members of the FLA and it's essential that any personnel taking out a lease-hire ensure they make it clear that they are a member of the Armed Forces to ensure the protocol applies.

The new FDIS Accommodation contracts has come into force which will replace the current National Housing Prime (NHP) contract.

Improving the lived experience for Service Personnel and customer service are at the heart of the new FDIS Accommodation contracts.
