Know the risks
Watching TV via the internet has completely changed the way we access entertainment, making it very easy to watch your favourite TV shows, movies, sport and more.
Accessing this premium content, from unofficial websites or through illegal Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) apps and devices, without paying the associated fees may seem appetising, but it does come with considerable concerns such as:
- Legal consequences
- Security and data hacks
- Computer viruses and cyber attacks
- Hidden fees and financial scams
"It's ok, I will just use a VPN (Virtual Private Network)" - Anonymous.
Now, whilst this is a legitimate way of adding extra security to your online presence and data, a VPN won’t shield you from hidden charges and potential scams from any illegal services.
Also, whilst a VPN can help keep you safe whilst accessing your favourite streamers, make time to read up about your provider's terms and conditions. It is against the vast majority of streaming platforms’ terms of service to use a VPN to unlock content which is unavailable outside of the country you are physically located in. Don't spoof yourself into being a content pirate whilst watching that last minute goal or amazing plot twist!
If you are a member of the UK Armed Forces community, serving overseas, then BFBS TV is a safe and secure way of accessing your favourite shows and more, live and on demand whilst you're posted outside of the UK and it's free to use. Access via your Defence Gateway log in.
BUT, it's still very useful to be aware of the online risks so below are a few links to help you. Remember, the front line is you!
