Sports
3x3 Basketball
A much shorter and faster version of the sport with teams of three players (and one sub). Teams play with only half a court and the first one to 21 points wins but if nobody reaches 21 points within the ten minute time limit then the team with the most points wins.
3x3 Wheelchair Basketball
This is making its Commonwealth debut, it's basically Basketball but in a 3x3 format.
Artistic Gymnastics
Athletes perform a variety of moves across a range of iconic apparatus, earning points from a panel of judges - the objective is to get the most points.
Athletics and Para Athletics
Athletes take part in a variety of different events aiming to showcase speed, strength, endurance and agility. A few events include sprinting, long distance running, javelin, long jump and pole vault - to name a few.
Bowls and Para Bowls
Depending on a coin toss, one team will bowl a small ball (know as the jack) down the bowling area. From there players take it in turn to roll their bowls, aiming to get as close to the jack as possible. Points are awarded for who gets closest and the first to 21 points win.
Boxing
Athletes step into the ring to compete in a variety of weight divisions. Unless the fight is stopped, due to knockout or TKO, then judges at ringside will decide the bout based on their scoring.
Judo
Two competitors face off against each other with the objective being to take your opponent down using control, not brute force. There's no punching or kicking and there are two ways to score points - an ‘Ippon’ (one full point) which automatically ends the bout, and a ‘waza-ari’, which is a half point, two of which would win the match.
Netball
Seven a-side sport where players are unable to move when in possession of the ball and must pass or shoot within three seconds of getting it. The team who scores the most, in a 60-minute game, wins. Only select players can score for each team and must do so in the shooting circle.
Swimming and Para Swimming
Athletes compete in events comprising of four swimming styles – freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke, together with medley events which include all four strokes.
Track Cycling and Para Track Cycling
Athletes will use a mixture of speed and endurance in the following formats: Sprint/Tandem Sprint, Time Trial, Individual Pursuit, Team Pursuit, Scratch Race and Points Race. You can find out more here!
Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting
Athletes from different bodyweight categories perform three lifts in each of their two disciplines - the Snatch (one move lift with a wide grip) and the Clean & Jerk (a close gripped, two part lift).
