Satellite Re-pointing Guide
What is happening?
In Europe and the Middle East, BFBS Radio and TV services are currently carried and delivered via the EutelSat W3A satellite at orbital position 7 degrees East. To enable viewers to watch and listen to the BFBS Services, the viewer has a satellite receive system comprising a dish, a satellite receiver with an encryption card and a TV set
For the last couple of years EutelSat, the satellite owners and operators, have been in discussion with BFBS regarding changing the satellite that BFBS uses. As older satellites are taken out of service and new ones launched their usage and content providers change and in some cases, such as this one, moves are necessary. Much detail was worked through to ensure that any change would satisfy the coverage area BFBS requires and it has now been agreed that BFBS will move to the EutelSat W2A satellite at orbital position 10 degrees East
When is it happening?
Now. To allow time for dishes to be re-pointed both satellites will broadcast services until the 30th November 2010, and from then on only the new satellite, W2A, will carry the service.
How does this affect me?
If you receive BFBS in the main quartering areas of Germany, Cyprus, Italy and Operational locations arrangements have been made to re-point your dishes and you do not need to take any action other than re-tune your set top box after re-pointing (see bottom of this page).
However, if you live elsewhere within the areas coloured yellow/orange on this map then you will need to arrange to have your dish re-pointed to the new satellite.
So, I am affected, what do I do?
Step1 – Check what sort of set-top-box you have,
- If it is a Humax or Technisat box please go to Step 2 below.
- If it is a BFBS Pace box, please go to software version check
Step 2– Have a satellite installer re-point your dish. Give him this document which includes all the information he will need.
Note: the cost of this re-point must be met by yourself
Step 3 – After your dish has been repointed, re-tune your set-top-box.
- If it is a Humax box, please go to Humax
- If it is a Technisat box, please go to Technisat
- If it is a BFBS Pace box, please go to Pace
