A bronze plaque commemorating 50 men who gave their lives during the First World War, has been stolen.
Thieves prised the plaque from the War Memorial at Crumlin in South Wales before Christmas.
An attempt was also made to remove a smaller plaque commemorating those from the area who had died during the Second World War. The plaque was left dented and buckled.
Local service veterans described the act as ‘the lowest of the low’.
Gwent Police suspect the bronze may have been stolen for its scrap metal value and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
