Some of the pilots and crew that trained the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, to fly Search and Rescue for the RAF are being made redundant.

Eight helicopter training pilots and aircrewmen at RAF Valley and RAF Shawbury are being laid off by FB Heliservices.

Mick Brade, BALPA principal negotiator, said: "It is a tragedy that the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and the British Army will not be able to make use of their decades of service, expertise and professionalism."

The pilots involved have trained hundreds if not thousands of military flight crew including the Duke of Cambridge who himself serves as a Flight Lieutenant from RAF Valley on Anglesey.
