The ex service charity Veterans Aid says it is seeing a worrying increase in calls from serving soldiers and their families worried about their prospects when they leave.

At the charity's annual carol service in the Guards Chapel in central London - just a few 100 yards from the Veterans Aid drop-in centre - Chief Executive Dr Hugh Milroy spoke to Forces News about the increasing difficulties for veterans and those leaving the services in need of accommodation.

He said Veterans Aid takes around 2000 calls a year from ex-service personnel on the streets or worried they may be heading that way. Dr Milroy described the challenges facing the organisation in 2012 as challenging, with redundancies coming and " the market place outside difficult for jobs."
