Extending the service life of a single Nimrod spy plane to support operations in Libya is costing 4 million pounds according to ministers.

The Nimrod R1, which was due to be grounded on April 1st, will remain in use until the end of June.

The Ministry of Defence also delayed the withdrawal of two C-130K Hercules transport planes and the frigate HMS Cumberland.
