One of Britain’s most iconic landmarks will be lit up with the faces of a nation thankful for the bravery and sacrifice of British soldiers in Afghanistan on New Year’s Eve.
The White Cliffs of Dover will be the backdrop for a giant interactive Union Jack projection, made up of the faces of those backing the ABF The Soldier’s Charity online campaign “Thanks, Soldier.”
Launched at the beginning of the month, the campaign invites supporters of the charity, fans on Facebook and followers on Twitter to show Britain’s brave men and women how much they care.
People can join up in just a few clicks, by visiting www.soldierscharity.org/thanks and adding their Facebook profile to the online Union Jack flag.
As the flag grows through the month, people can enjoy searching for themselves and their friends and the climax of the campaign, New Year’s Eve, will eventually see their faces projected onto Dover’s White Cliffs which are renowned for being referenced in the World War Two song made famous by ‘The Forces sweetheart’ Dame Vera Lynn.
Celebrities including Gary Lineker, Joanna Lumley, Sara Cox, Fern Britton, Ben Sheppard and Kate Humble have already added their photos.
