Armed Forces honour Queen in gun salutes

The Honourable Artillery Company, the City of London’s Territorial Army Regiment; fired a Gun Salute from Gun Wharf at the Tower of London to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne.

A 21-gun salute was fired by the Royal Navy. The saluting gun at Fort Blockhouse at Gosport, Hampshire - at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour - was fired at noon by four specialist gunnery instructors from HMS Collingwood in Fareham.

In London's Hyde Park, a 41-gun salute was fired by the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery. The basic salute is 21 rounds with an extra 20 rounds added because it is a royal park.

A 21-gun salute was fired at Edinburgh Castle.

Gunners from 105 Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers) fired the royal salute after marching to the castle's Mills Mount Battery.

In York, a 21-gun salute took place in the Museum Gardens.

Soldiers from 35 Battery of 29 Regiment Royal Artillery performed the salute and music was provided by the Heavy Cavalry and Cambrai Band.
