New figures have revealed an alarming rise in the numbers of sexually transmitted infections reported among 15 to 24 year-olds.

In 2009 there were almost 483 thousand cases compared with almost 471 thousand in 2008 - that's a rise of 12,000 new cases in the UK. Of those diagnosed half were men and two thirds women - all under the age of 25.
