Independent review into Chinook helicopter crash

8 September 2010 | By Vicki Turner  British Forces News

The Government has ordered an independent review of an RAF Chinook helicopter crash on the Mull of Kintyre.

The confirmation of the review was announced in Prime Minister's Questions.

Standing in for David Cameron at PMQs, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg confirmed that there would be a review of the 1994 accident which killed all 29 people on board.

There have been calls for an inquiry into the accident since the RAF found the two pilots guilty of "gross negligence".

Mr Clegg said he hoped the review would be welcomed by the families of those who died in the accident. He added that the review would be conducted by a lawyer who is independent of the Government and who hasn't previously expressed a view on the disaster.
