TIM'S PROFILE
Tim Cooper is an award winning film-maker, if you count getting a highly commended certificate from the Islington Film Festival when he was17…
His career is now entering its 11th year and encompasses both Television and Radio work. It all started in 1999 at TV 12, the Isle of Wight’s premier and only television station. It was the first ever RSL or Restricted Service License, covering just the Isle of Wight through the regular terrestrial system. Unfortunately, due to various transmission issues, most people on the Island couldn’t actually receive it. Tim started as a volunteer and after finishing a History degree at Chichester University, began working for the station full-time. He did everything from news reading and presenting countless local programmes, to camerawork, scheduling and dressing as a pirate in a children’s quiz show. Eventually, Tim became Station Manager, shortly before the station went bankrupt…
Next for Tim, came the bright lights of Portsmouth, working for another RSL, called Portsmouth TV. This was much more professional than TV 12, having daily live news and magazine programmes. Tim worked as Journalist, Video Journalist, newsreader and presenter and spent a happy 18 months at the station, before it too went bankrupt…
Keen to break the theme of bankruptcy and redundancy, Tim then worked as a freelance newsreader and journalist for the next 6 years. This proved a great training ground and led him to work for 22 stations including BBC Southern Counties Radio, Power FM, 2CRFM, Spire FM and as a contributor for Classic FM’s Newsnight programme.
Alongside his radio work, Tim began a successful 7-year spell as a media trainer and lecturer. He worked with the MOD and their Defence Operations Centre, providing expertise in training and media simulation.
Tim joined BFBS in January 2010, spending the first 3 months in Cyprus, before heading to Afghanistan. In his spare time, hobbies include old cars, socialising and writing biographies about himself…
