Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire Reporter (Radio) | England  UK  [title]

Shirley's Profile

A midlands girl at heart, Shirley was born in Nottingham many years ago...far too long ago apparently!

She joined BFBS back in 1999 when she became a reporter covering the Gutersloh Garrison area in Germany.

Back in the UK, Shirley is now a Regional Reporter for BFBS Radio 1 and 2 and is based at the heart of Wiltshire's military community on Salisbury Plain.

"Working for BFBS is a truly special job and I'm really proud to be reporting and talking about the issues that matter to our forces men and women and their families".

As well as her reporting role, Shirley works to BFBS Radio’s flagship programme ‘Access All Areas’; a dedicated show connecting the forces world through its special broadcast messaging service. Shirley says although she’s reported in the air from a Lynx Helicopter, driven tanks and met some high profile people, helping to connect loved ones is the best part of the job.

Shirley says she loves far too many things citing to be one of the biggest Stereophonics fans ever, needless to say she loves chips, champagne, chocolate, crisps, running (this to counter-act the junk food), her iTouch - packed full of every Stereophonic track known to man of course, her gorgeous family and her running partner - Lucy the family dog.

Shirley Writes:

I work as a Regional Reporter for BFBS Radio, where my main responsibilities include making radio features about the military and its wider community. It is a truly varied role, which can mean I’m reporting at medal presentations and charity events, to being on Salisbury Plain reporting on the latest training exercise.

I also collect recording messages from the families of troops currently serving on operations.
