ROB'S PROFILE

Rob recently returned from BFBS's studios in Camp Bastion to return to Rheindahlen near the Dutch border where he has spent much of his career worknig for British Forces News and both its predecessor programmes BFBS Reports and Scene Here.

Rob has spent most of his life associated with BFBS Germany. As a child he became a regular listener in nineteen sixties Duesseldorf. He even shares the same birthday as BFBS Germany – 29th July - although he was born fifteen years after the station’s 1945 launch.

Rob began working for BFBS after freelancing for the English language service of the German World Service Deutsche Welle. He was initially offered a job in television continuity before switching to local reporting. Since then he has been to every British military base in Germany and many more beyond the country’s borders.

Rob says it’s been a huge privilege working alongside our forces. BFBS has taken him to the South Atlantic, Canada and Alaska. Rob has also had first hand experience of the conflicts in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Kosovo and has already reported from Iraq and Afghanistan. If there’s any reporter Rob would like to emulate, it’s Martin Bell who he says managed to tell brilliant stories so simply and with so few words.
