LAURA'S PROFILE

Laura’s zest for life from a young age meant she always had a long list for that popular question ‘What do you want to be when you grow-up?’ It was either a ballet dancer, a weather girl, a travel agent, a war reporter, a lawyer, a P.E teacher or a travel journalist!

The sensible, safe option prevailed and Laura went to Nottingham Law School to complete her Law degree, which included a year Down Under studying Australian Law – not too bad at all! But around that time on a random flight to Australia she met a Channel 4 War Correspondent and was engrossed in his passion for his work, his view on the world and the adventure his job gave him. His enthusiasm and love for his job always stayed with her.

It was another few years, after graduating from Law and working for a Family Law firm that Laura’s inquisitive mind and the pull of journalism, adventure and variety became too strong. Laura opted for a change in career when she completed her Masters in Broadcast Journalism at The University of Westminster.

The year was certainly a memorable one. The experiences that Laura came across included the production of several radio documentaries, including the House of Lord’s Court Case on Assisted Suicide with Debbie Purdy and the Gurkha’s Victory on their rights to settle in the UK. Laura even managed to talk her way into gaining exclusive access into No. 10 Downing Street with Joanna Lumley and the Gurkha’s to enjoy tea and biscuits with Gordon Brown!

Since graduating in August 2009, Laura has worked for BBC Radio Leicester and has been to Sardinia and France working as a Media Trainer with NATO Forces.

Laura joined BFBS in January 2010 as a video-journalist and is now based in our Herford Office in Germany where she is getting her teeth into the world of BFG, already covering stories in Holland, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Travelling and meeting new people is something that Laura has embraced from a young age, from visiting foreign students in Europe, to her round-the–world Gap Year at 18 and any other cheeky travelling trips that she can fit in! The Inca Trail in Peru, Rio De Janeiro and Western Australia have got to be her all-time favourites.

Coming from Bournemouth, Laura loves the seaside, the outdoors and coastal walks. But predominantly loves any adrenalin or adventures sports, rollerblading, salsa dancing and being with her friends and family. Her leap of faith from Law to Journalism has certainly paid off as she feels right at home in BFG with the variety of stories, the excitement and friendliness of the people around her… and of course her dream job as a news reporter!
