JOHN'S PROFILE
John is one of those who always knew they wanted to be in radio. He started, as so many do, in hospital radio - spending hours on end there, when he should have been doing his school homework. He did manage to pass enough exams to study music, radio, film and television at college in Canterbury. He pestered the local radio station - fortunately only a short bike ride from college digs - to let him help out. They relented and he presented the weekly classical music programme, and other shows, before heading off to the seaside to study radio journalism at Falmouth College. John stayed in the south west for ten years as a reporter and presenter at BBC Radio Devon before moving to London.
As well as newsreading at BFBS Radio for nearly ten years, John also dabbles in political reporting for the BBC at Westminster, and was one of the voices of the weekend news on Classic FM for eleven years. Spare time is mostly devoted to keeping his five year old daughter, Lilia, out of trouble and secretly enjoying trips with her to the zoo and the cinema to watch the latest Disney releases.
Any remaining spare time is spent trying to re-learn the piano pieces he played at college all those years ago - a painful experience for anyone in earshot.
