JAMIE'S PROFILE
Jamie has spent most of his working life with BFBS, his first contribution was as a kid living in Cyprus when he recorded a flight in a glider. Having grown up surrounded by the military, it probably wasn't a great surprise he fell into BFBS radio as a 17 year old living with his parents in Berlin. After completing a Youth Training Scheme he was taken on as a freelance presenter and reporter, covering military events and interviewing some of the celebrities who came to the city. The highlight of his time in the city was being there when the Berlin Wall fell in 1989 and reporting on the historic events.
Subsequent postings saw Jamie presenting programmes in the Falkland Islands, Belize, Norway, Bosnia, Cyprus, Germany and Hong Kong where he met his wife Ali. Twenty five odd years down the line and Jamie is now back in Chalfont working in the News department. He's a producer for both radio and TV, working mainly on the daily British Forces News programme where he has responsibility for the feature content of the show.
After spending most of his life overseas Jamie and his family, including two kids and a slightly overweight black Labrador, have settled into life in the UK.
Jamie Writes:
"I have been extremely lucky in my career with BFBS having lived and worked amongst the finest audience there is; the British Forces and their families. As a result of my job I have had some fantastic experiences flying in fast jets, interviewing celebs as diverse as Barry Humphries and Kylie Minogue to sleeping in the Forces post office in Belize wearing a life vest whilst expecting a hurricane to hit (which it didn't thankfully). What makes the Forces audience so special is that despite having a job that many would not dream of doing, their generosity and their willingness to help is extraordinary.
I am very fortunate to be surrounded by colleagues who, like me, have the Forces best interests at heart- whether it's reporting on the conflict in Afghanistan or the latest madcap fundraising exercise. The Forces family always wants to know what is going on regardless of where it is in the world and that's what we try and do."
