JAMES'S PROFILE

James Hirst has more than 15 years experience as a Radio and TV journalist (he doesn’t think he looks old enough for that kind of career, but we’ve seen him first thing in the morning).

In that time he’s worked at the BBC and ITN, and first joined BFBS in 2004 becoming a familiar voice presenting Newsplus on the radio. In 2009 he broke out of the air-conditioned studio to start reporting from the real world, that’s when he began sticking his face in front of BFBS TV cameras.

Since then he’s interviewed both Gordon Brown and David Cameron, spent a week following Joanna Lumley round Nepal with a microphone, and lost count of how many military bases he’s had to ask directions to.

He’d rather you didn’t mention the incident where he managed to loose his car only to notice two days later. He arrived at BFBS just three minutes before he was due on-air to be told by the boss “your bulletin is on the desk, I’ll get you a coffee”. He still hasn’t worked out why the same boss agreed to hire him again after an 18 month gap working for ITV.

He claims to have run the London Marathon as well as numerous half marathons, and completed the 120 mile “Dunwich Dynamo” cycle ride three times. We’re not saying we don’t believe him, but it looks like they might all have been quite some time ago.
