CATH'S PROFILE
Cath's first broadcasting experience was a 6-month stint on a radio station in Accra, Ghana where, in her role as international sports reporter, she tried to introduce the West Africans to the Winter Olympics. Eight years later, she was glad see Ghana's first Winter Olympian taking part in Vancouver 2010... and they said no-one listened to Vibe FM!
After training at Falmouth for a PGDip in Broadcast Journalism, Cath moved around the country as a freelance reporter/runner, which included time spent reading traffic reports from a Tesco car park for Chorley Local Radio, and at one point wrestling with celebrities (literally) at the famous Elstree studios.
In 2005 Cath started at The Press Association news agency where she stayed for two and a half years covering major events including Tony Blair's departure from No. 10, the 7/7 bombings and the 2006-2007 Ashes series whitewash in Australia. One of the highlights of Cath’s career was spending the whole of 2007 following the England cricket team around the world (as a video journalist, not a stalker) from down under, to the ICC Cricket World Cup in the West Indies, back to the UK for the summer season before an end of year tour to Sri Lanka. It was there, she saw the first game at Galle since the boxing day tsunami destroyed the stadium in 2004.
Cath tasted the wonderful world of freelancing again before joining BFBS in December 2009. During that time she worked for Guardian Unlimited, ITN and The Telegraph. After three months in Afghanistan, she is currently the British Forces News' reporter in Cyprus based at RAF Akrotiri.
In her spare time, Cath can be found on holiday, playing lacrosse, in a pub or at a wedding – she doesn’t seem to have much time for anything else.
