ALI'S PROFILE
Ali is a Producer and Video Journalist for Paderborn Garrison in Germany.
She was appointed as a Broadcast Journalist at BFBS in November 2009, working with the Head of Newsgathering. Her responsibilities included planning for the next day’s news output and coming up with news and feature ideas. She then worked on the British Forces News website ensuring that military news was updated to the site frequently, along with video and audio content.
After that Ali did a stint as an Assistant Producer on the British Forces News programme and worked as the producer for a week of live programmes from Army bases across Germany in June last year. She returned to Germany full time in August 2011 as a Video Journalist.
Before joining BFBS Ali worked as a freelancer for Five News, carrying out interviews and working on the Forward Planning desk. Ali has been passionate about journalism from a young age and prior to joining BFBS she carried out work experience for Sky News, Absolute Radio, The Cape Times, and Radio Jackie, as well as working for her university newspaper.
She studied English at Oxford University before spending her gap year in South America, Thailand, Australia and Cape Town, South Africa where she spent a month as a reporter. Ali then headed to Falmouth in Cornwall to study for her MA in Multimedia Broadcast Journalism.
Her proudest moment was when she achieved a distinction in her Masters for a documentary she filmed, edited and produced on Zimbabweans living in the UK.

Ali Writes:
“I work as a Producer / Video Journalist for BFBS in Sennelager, Germany. I cover all the news from the Paderborn Garrison, as 20th Armoured Brigade have recently returned from Op Herrick 15 in Afghanistan.
In June last year I came to Germany for two weeks to produce a week of live programmes for British Forces News. This was an amazing experience because it allowed me to personally see what life is like for the Armed Forces stationed overseas. And I liked it so much I came back full time in August. So far I have greatly enjoyed the experience of being based in Germany full time and covering stories across the country.
I am proud to be part of BFBS news because I believe we have a fantastic team of reporters and production staff who work incredibly hard to provide a great news service for the forces.
Since a young age I have been passionate about journalism and I’m very privileged to be doing a job I love; working for the brave men and women of the British forces who do so much for the public."
