The Royal Irish Regiment and the Irish Guards could finally be allowed a homecoming parade in Belfast.

It comes after the city council agreed a plan last night that they hope can overcome Ministry of Defence concerns. It was worried about the risk of stirring up trouble and refused permission for the parade in April.

Now a new plan for a static homecoming celebration at the Balmoral Show Grounds has been voted in but now needs final approval by the MOD.

If successful it finally means Belfast can pay tribute to the bravery and dedication of local soldiers in Afghanistan.
