Last month they bid farewell to their guns and today their flag was lowered for the final time.

At Thiepval Barracks in Northern Ireland, 40 Regiment Royal Artillery, The Lowland Gunners, marked the end of their 65 years of service to the crown.

Although the Regiment has been moved to 'suspended animation' as a result of SDSR, most of the gunners will find homes with other units.
