An American Marine in charge of a unit that killed 24 unarmed Iraqi civilians in Haditha in 2005 has pleaded guilty to dereliction of duty.

Prosecutors said Marine Staff Sergeant Frank Wuterich had his men storm two houses using gunfire and grenades after a roadside bomb killed another Marine.

He will be sentenced today but is not expected to get more than three months in jail because manslaughter charges have been dropped.
