Victoria Cross winner Lance Corporal Johnson Beharry is to receive an honorary degree from the University of Sussex.

He was awarded the medal in 2005 - the first Victoria Cross to be presented in more than 23 years. It made him the youngest ever living person to receive the accolade.

It recognised two acts of outstanding gallantry during some of the fiercest engagements between British Forces and Iraqi Insurgents in the volatile town of Al Amarah in 2004.

He's been fighting back to health since then - a process that was helped when he took part in the television series Dancing on Ice. He agreed to appear in the show to give hope to injured British soldiers.
