Up to 57 people are feared dead after a series of explosions in the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Security officials said at least four of the deaths were caused by two roadside bombs in the Alawi district of Baghdad.

Iraq's Interior Ministry says there were attacks in 13 different locations across the city, leaving more than 70 people injured.

It is the first apparently coordinated attack since a crisis erupted between the country's Shi'ite-led government and Sunni rivals.

No one has admitted carrying out the blasts but they come within days of the last American combat soldiers leaving Iraq.
