Princess Anne, the Colonel in Chief of the Royal Logistic Corps paid a visit to troops in Germany today to present Afghanistan Medals.
Her first stop was to Gutersloh where 2 Logistic Support Regiment are based.
With temperatures only a few degrees above freezing, it was a bitterly cold morning to be out on the parade square at Princess Royal Barracks in Guterlsoh.
Ninety-three Afghanistan medals were awarded to members of 45 Close Support Squadron, 76 General Support Squadron and The Light Aid Detachment of 2 LSR.
Throughout Op Herrick 14, the troops supported 3 Brigade with logistics around Helmand including protected convoys. Whilst awarding the medals Her Royal Highness Princess Anne congratulated all soldiers on their achievements and professionalism.
Inside the Officers Mess, the Princess Royal awarded Lance Corporal Brian Sivewright his Afghan Medal. Four months into his tour of duty, he broke his left leg and ankle after an IED blew up the mastiff he was travelling in. But he’s now on his way to a full recovery and was thrilled to be back.
The Princess Royal finished the morning by meeting the local German Major and mingled with the soldiers and families of the Regiment.
