28 Engineer Regiment have won the BA(G) Rugby Community Cup at Dempsey Barracks in Sennelager.

It wasn’t an easy victory for the sappers against Hohne’s 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery and a Sapper versus Gunners final was always going to be a feisty affair.

An incredible run-in for 28 Engineer Regiment to this encounter made them sure favourites, with 126 points scored over 3 matches, and not a single point conceded.

The game started well for Hameln’s Sharks as they did well in the line-outs and made sure their penalties were on target.

But it wasn’t all plain sailing as the Artillery put together some impressive moves of their own to get them on the scoreboard. By half time there was only a point in it, with 28 Engineers leading 8 points to 3RHA’s 7.

There were some tense moments in the second half for 28, when the gunners nearly scored a try and then succeeded with a penalty. The tension was almost too much for the crowd but 28 Engineers pushed through taking the match in the end by 14 points to the Artillery’s 13.
