Island named after last soldier killed in Falklands conflict

17 February 2011 | Falkland Islands  Memorial island to last British soldier killed for Falklands

The parents of the last soldier killed in the Falklands conflict the day before the Argentine surrender have had one of the islands named after him.

Craig Jones was just 20 when he died on June 13 1982. His parents Pamela and Richard Jones have bought the island - previously called Little Rabbit Island - which lies 40 miles from the capital Port Stanley.

It's been renamed Craig Island. It has taken the couple two years of intense negotiations with a farmer to secure the lasting memorial to their son.

Mr Jones said: "You can see the island from the spot on Mount Longdon where Craig was killed."
