Brigadier Bill Aldridge is the new Commander of British Forces South Atlantic islands.

He currently commands 42 (Northwest) Brigade and has done since September 2008.

During this time he has overseen the deployment of reservists to Iraq, Cyprus and Afghanistan and supervised the construction of an Emergency Footbridge at Workington during the Cumbrian Floods crisis of 2009.

He takes over from Commodore Phillip Thicknesse of the Royal Navy.
