Argentina says colonialist slur nonsense

26 January 2012 | Falkland Islands  Argentina says colonialist slur nonsense

Argentina's president has condemned the UK Prime Minister's claim last week that her government takes a colonialist attitude to the Falklands Islands.

Making her first public appearance after undergoing surgery for cancer, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner branded David Cameron's comment "nonsense".

She said that people only talk nonsense when they do not have solid arguments.

Mrs Kirchner said the Falkland Islanders would not be forced to give up their British nationality if Argentina gained control of the territory.

She said peaceful dialogue must continue, and insisted that Argentines were not what she called the baddies in the dispute.
