The MOD is to speed up job losses among its civilian staff in an effort to plug a shortfall in its budget.

25,000 posts were to be shed by 2015, with a further 7000 by 2020. But now 3000 of those jobs will go earlier.

The ministry says the final total of posts to go by twenty-twenty will remain at 32-thousand.

Last summer it revealed it had received many more applications than expected for the first round of redundancies.
