The Military Wives’ choir has broken the half-million pound barrier in its fundraising for forces’ charities.

This morning, Decca Records signed a big cheque over to the girls’ nominated good causes, for just under five hundred and four thousand pounds.

The singing sensations of last year presented the Royal British Legion and SSAFA Forces Help with the proceeds from their Christmas Number 1 single “Wherever You Are” – and they have announced that they are releasing an album.

Their next disc will be in the shops to coincide with Mothers’ Day.

The Choir also got a special trophy from the Official Charts Company. The award has just been launched to mark the 60th anniversary of the UK’s Official Singles Chart, the women are its first recipients, and from now on, each new number one single will receive it.

Because two choirs performed on “Wherever You Are”, there are two trophies, with one going back to Chivenor and the other to Plymouth.
