Big changes have been announced to the Local Overseas Allowance Rates in Cyprus.
From 1st February, single unaccompanied personnel working in Cyprus will notice a big difference in their pay packets as their LOA rate is reduced by 18 per cent.
Married accompanied personnel serving in Cyprus will see their LOA rate go up by 2 per cent.
SO3 J1 Capt Jamie Lawrence explained the changes: "A lot of the single personnel were indicating that they were shopping locally, staying on camp and driving less. Married personnel were going out shopping, using a car and that's where the expenditure comes in."
Under SDSR, the domestic assistance element of LOA will be removed completely in April.
VAT increases are on the way in the republic, but this change will be included in the revised LOA rates to be published later in the year.
