In Cyprus, the station commander at RAF Akrotiri is into his final week in charge of the airbase.

Group Captain Barrie Thomson, who arrived in November 2010, is leaving earlier than expected after accepting a promotional job at Abbey Wood in Bristol.

In a year when RAF Akrotiri has been thrust back into the spotlight, Group Captain Barrie Thomson told BFBS he hopes he did his duty for both Op Herrick and Op Ellamy.
