One of the main, long term roles at RAF Akrotiri is 84 Squadron who, next year would have been in service 48 years.

On call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week their job consists of sighting fires, finding the missing and rescuing them.

With the whole coast of Cyprus and Eastern Mediterranean to cover, their next call could come from anywhere.

The Search and Rescue team fly Griffin HAR Mk. 2 helicopters and take part in practice exercises for an hour and a half every week.
