The parallel giant slalom went ahead today, but heavy snow forced the cancellation of the downhill race.

After two days of practice ready for the brand new course, skiers were told that due to heavy snowfall, the piste would cause poor visibility and was deemed unsafe.

Therefore the result of yesterday’s timed practice now counts as the downhill result with the Army winning both titles, Matt Shepherd the men’s winner and Nicky Jordan the women’s.

With the Navy women not attending, it means the Army are already inter services champions, by default.

The hope is now to get the championships back on track tomorrow.

Meanwhile, braving some heavy snow conditions to carry out their qualifying rounds were those taking part in the parallel giant slalom.
