A ceremony has been held in Holland to honour the Royal Army Medical Corps’ last recipient of the Victoria Cross.

Lance Corporal Eric Harden would have been a hundred next month.

He died prematurely in January 1945 after defying intense mortar and machine gun fire to bring three wounded commandos to safety.

On each anniversary of his death his picture adorns the local school and villagers march to where he fell.
