Journalists in Helmand Province are trying to improve perceptions of the Afghan Authorities.

Radio and television services are encouraging the reporting of corruption, following a survey suggesting civilians believe it is getting worse.

At a weekly press conference in Lashkar Gah the new chief of police assures locals that his security forces are winning the battle against the insurgency, and encourages investigations into corruption claims.

The press has seen success in this area: In 2011 an investigation by local journalists accused the Mayor of Lashkar Gah of corruption. Although he wasn't charged, the strength of the claims and public pressure forced him out of office.
